Perplexity Powers AI Search on Truth Social

AI startup Perplexity is providing the technology behind Truth Search AI, a new AI-powered search engine integrated into Truth Social, the social media platform founded by former President Donald Trump. The search engine is currently live on the web version of Truth Social, with plans for public beta testing on iOS and Android apps soon. Perplexity’s Sonar API drives the tool, offering contextually accurate answers with transparent citations, though Truth Social controls which information sources the AI can access. Early testing by Axios found that Truth Search AI’s responses predominantly cite conservative-leaning outlets like Fox News, The Washington Times, and Epoch Times, contrasting with Perplexity’s public engine, which draws from a broader range of sources.

Truth Social’s implementation highlights a growing trend where AI-powered tools can be customized to serve particular ideological narratives by selectively curating source material.
